CRH Plc was formed through a merger in 1970 of two leading Irish public companies, Cement Limited (established in 1936) and Road stone Limited (established in 1949). The newly-formed group was originally called “Cement Road stone Holdings”, later abbreviated to CRH. Today, CRH is one of the six largest international groups in its sector. CRH subsidiary companies employ approximately 76,000 people at over 3,500 locations around the world. The Group’s major businesses are in the developed markets of Europe and North America, and it has been growing its foothold in certain developing economies in Asia.
